Show Info- About The X Factor
The X Factor is the biggest reality talent blockbuster
ever seen on Television. It's open to anybody - individuals
and vocal groups - but you must be over the age of 16
(as of January 1, 2005).
The aim of the series is clear....to find an undiscovered
major music talent.
Remember... There's no age limit!
The X Factor has four parts:
: National Auditions
: Lockdown
: Judges' Home Visit
: Live Studio shows
After the National Auditions, each of the three categories
is appointed a judge. By the end of the Two Day Lockdown,
and the Home Visit, the judges will cut their category
down to just three acts. The judge, working with his or
her own vocal coach and stylist, is then responsible for
mentoring these acts as they hit the stage for the biggest
challenge of their lives - the LIVE STUDIO SHOWS.
The first LIVE studio show will have representatives from
each of the three categories:
:: Three from the 16-24 year olds
:: Three from the 25 and overs
:: Three from the vocal groups
Each week, the viewers will vote for their favourites.
The act with the fewest votes leaves the show, until our
Grand Final show, when the final two acts will battle
it out to prove they have what it takes... that they have
THE X FACTOR. The winner will receive a management contract
and a recording contract with Sony BMG.

X Factor achieved massive ratings success, consistently
ranking first in its timeslot across all target demographics.

and Friends. In 1996 Kate released her next solo album
Blue Box, which went gold and saw her nominated for another
Best Female Artist ARIA. In 1997 Kate wrote and released
what has become an Australian classic, Pash. It went gold
and established Kate as one of our leading female songwriters.
In October 2004, Kate released her latest album, 19 Days
In New York.
Star maker John Reid can spot The X Factor
in an instant. Having managed some of the biggest international
names in the music industry throughout the past 30 years,
John has the background and expertise to know whos
got it, and who doesnt.
Johns greatest career achievement was discovering
the unknown but talented Reginald Dwight, who he developed
into the multi-platinum, award winning superstar Elton
John. John managed Elton for 28 years as well as a myriad
of other stars including Queen, Billy Connolly, Kiki Dee,
Lionel Ritchie, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Michael Flatley,
Barry Humphries, Pamela Stevenson, The Jackson Five and
Carole Bayer Sager to name a few.
Throughout his colourful management career, John has met
and worked with many legends of the music scene including
Elvis Presley. He produced Diana Rosss first solo
album and managed The Jackson Five when the Michael Jackson
was only eleven years old. John was the best man at Elton
Johns wedding in Australia and was also best man
at Billy Connollys marriage to Pamela Stephenson.
Scottish born John began his music management career in
1967 at E.M.I Ltd as the label manager for Tamla Motown,
before starting his own Artiste Management Company at
the age of 21 where he was responsible for managing Elton
John.
Being a judge on The X Factor is Johns first television
role to date, having previously declined judging offers
for both UK Popstars and UK Idol.
John is a huge fan of The X Factor UK and strongly believes
that its his duty to pass on the skills, knowledge
and expertise he has acquired in the music industry over
the past 30 years.
Mark Holden
Mark Holden is a former singer and now writer and producer.
He is also a host on Australian Idol.
Enjoying massive popularity with monster hits I Wanna
Make You My Lady, Last Romance and Never Gonna Fall In
Love Again in the 70s made Mark our very own pop idol.
Girls practically fainted if they were given one of his
trademark red carnations during his performance. Mark's
albums achieved platinum success, he won three Logies
and scored numerous roles in TV dramas and films.
Living in the USA in the 80s, Mark worked with film star
Milla Jovovich, Mowtown gurus The Temptations, Belinda
Carlisle, Andrew Strong of The Commitments and actor/singer
David Hasselhoff.
Returning to Oz in the 90s, Mark formed artist management
company, MarJac Productions, which manages Vanessa Amorosi.
He co-wrote hits Absolutely Everybody, Shine, Have A Look
and The Power and has written songs recorded by Delta
Goodrem, Sophie Monk and Nikki Webster. He is passionately
focussed on developing new Australian talent and brings
his own unique experience as a singer, songwriter, producer
and international artist developer to the team.
With his smouldering good looks and charismatic persona,
Daniel MacPherson is the epitome of The X Factor. As the
show's sole host, Daniel will need to keep the contestants,
and more importantly, the feuding judges under control.
Actor Daniel MacPherson is the host of The X Factor, he
is a former star of The Bill and Neighbours.
Grundy, which is producing The X Factor and Idol, is also
the producer of Neighbours, the Ten soapie on which MacPherson
made his name.
Says Grundy chief executive Andrew Brooke: "We at
Grundy are looking forward to renewing our friendship
and working with Daniel again. He's an actor whose talent
and charisma epitomise that intangible 'X factor' - his
international success is a testament to that."
MacPherson, who just returned from Britain, where he starred
in The Bill, tells Media it was a risky career move to
accept the offer as the prevailing attitude in Australia
is that TV hosting damages an actor's standing as a professional.
"There is an unwritten rule here that presenting
might detract from an actor's credibility," he says.
"But that's not the case in Britain, where I had
some experience with live TV hosting."
MacPherson says live theatre - he appeared in Godspell
in Britain - has given him the skills required for live
TV, which are "appearing relaxed and thinking on
your feet".
Ten's drama head Sue Masters is credited with planting
the seed for the appointment of actor Daniel MacPherson
as host of 2005's highly anticipated The X Factor. Masters
told Ten executives three weeks ago the former Neighbours
star was back in town after appearing in The Bill in Britain
and they should keep him in mind for work.
Programmer David Mott then saw him on Rove Live and realised
his relaxed, friendly manner might make him a great host.
He was invited to watch Australian Idol and encouraged
to get up on stage and chat to the audience before the
broadcast (a very informal audition). MacPherson was such
a hit when the tape was watched back at Ten, it cemented
their determination to hire him.
A talented and versatile presenter, Chloe Maxwell will
provide viewers with a sneak peek at the highs and lows
of stardom when she hosts the access-all-areas preview
show, The Xtra Factor.
Former model Chloe is best known for her recurring role
in the Jeanswest commercials but has since worked as a
presenter on Fox 8 Premiere with Antonia Kidman and hosted
Slayerfest, also on Fox 8. More recently, she has been
a VJ on Channel V, hosted Wild on Channel 7 and has appeared
as a special guest on a myriad of Australian television
shows including Good News Week, Burke's Backyard, The
Footy Show, Good Morning Australia, The Monday Dump with
Roy and HG, The Fat, 100% with Tony Squires, the Today
show and Mornings with Kerri Anne.
Since 2000 Chloe has appeared in a variety of feature
and short films including Directions, Sisters in Blood
and A Grove Mistake. In 2004, she was nominated for the
AFI Award for 'Best Actress' for her portrayal of Jo,
the Lead female character in Under the Radar and is currently
appearing in the Vagina Monologues at the Opera House.
Chloe has also starred in a number of television commercials
at home and around the world including Cadbury Dream,
Sony, Toshiba, Honda, Sanitarium, Rayban , LA Ice Cola
and Impulse. She has also graced the covers of numerous
Australian and international magazines such as Vogue and
Dolly and has appeared in countless magazine fashion and
editorial spreads around the world.
